Joe Cirrito
Joe Cirrito is a New York City Native who has a passion and love for officers all around the world. However, before he was an officer, Joe was a school teacher in the Bronx happily educating the youth. Everything changed for Joe after the 9/11 tragedy. Joe Cirrito decided he wanted to protect and serve his country and honor the men and women who were lost in the line of duty.
Joe Cirrito moved to Los Angeles and is now the senior lead officer of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Olympic Division.
Not only does Cirrito protect and serve the LA county every day, but he also runs marathons to raise money for and remember his fallen officers.
In 2016, Cirrito famously ran the 420 miles from LA to Sacramento, in full police uniform to raise money for Project: Endure. Project: Ensure is a volunteer project that is dedicated to raising awareness about fallen officers, and money raised goes to those families who are affected.
Running these intensive marathons is not an easy activity to do every year. Although, this doesn’t stop Joe from continuing to train and run marathons for a good cause. It is more than just running to Joe – he is remembering and honoring his fellow officers. Additionally, he also raises money for the homeless through the Los Angeles Homeless Service Authority.
Joe Cirrito’s passion and admirable dedication are building a better community for everyone and is why he is our Hero in Uniform for May. Thank you for all that you do, Joe!
